About the Daughters of Penelope

 

The Daughter’s of Penelope is a  National Women’s Organization under the auspices of the AHEPA  ( American Hellenic Progressive Association). The mission of the DOP is to promote ideals of education, philanthropy, Hellenism,civic responsibility, integrity and family and individual excellence.  The first chapter originated 91 years ago in the state of California and the organization flourishes with chapters in the United States and throughout many countries.

The local Grosse Pointe chapter, Thamyris #272 consists of 85 members. It’s largest fundraiser, The Festival of Tables, has been an annual event going on it’s eighteen year.  This is an event embraced by the community including businesses and the staff at Ascension SE Michigan -St. John Foundation.

The majority of contributions from The Festival of Tables will benefit Ascension SE Michigan - St. John Foundation Breast Care Program; also known as the Liggett Breast Center at The VanEslander Cancer Center.

​

The DOP also donates to Cass Community Services, The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Detroit Hellenic Museum,  District 10 AHEPA Educational Foundation and other women’s causes.
