About the Daughters of Penelope

 

The Daughters of Penelope was founded in San Francisco, California in 1929 by Alexandra Apostolides Sonenfeld.  With the support of her husband, Dr. Emanuel Apostolides, himself a member of AHEPA, the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association, Mrs. Apostolides she sought to bring the ideals of AHEPA to Greek American women.  The Daughters now have chapters in at least four countries and Mrs. Apostolides' ideas and principles have become the inspiration of all women.  

​​The objectives of the Daughters of Penelope are to promote the social, ethical, and intellectual interests of its members; to encourage Hellenic study; to cultivate citizenship and patriotism for the United States of America, Canada, Greece, Cyprus and other countries in which Chapters exist; and to promote and preserve the dissemination of Hellenic culture and ideals as a contribution to the global civilization.

The Daughters promote the spirit of cooperation and brotherhood and work closely with the whole AHEPA Family. The Order of the Daughters of Penelope is non-partisan and non-denominational.
